Doll Collector Forum With Easy Upload for Photos

INTRODUCTION
So, a while ago when I was new to the forums, I mentioned that I missed out on the chebacca barbie, and attempted to "recreate" her, and rcuevas asked me to mail photos. Additionally, I recently lamented the woes of a new collector who missed out on many gorgeous dolls (especially silkstones) which are at present sold for forbidding prices on ebay and elsewhere. Well, I also tried to recreate ii other dolls just for that reason. In this three-part post, I will depict my attempts at recreating these dolls, will try to evaluate whether the attempt was a success, and go on a tab on how much information technology would have cost me to purchase the doll outright, compared to trying to recreate her; i.east.: in the nearly literal sense, was it worth it?

Then, onwards with function i!

PART i: HOW I TRIED TO RECREATE THE STAR WARS CHEWBACCA DOLL

(Note: this is going to be a long read, but the other 2 stories are simpler and then will be shorter.)

Compared to the other two dolls I will discuss later, this doll is still pretty new, so I call up that I basically Simply missed out on her when I was offset to be aware that Mattel has grown beyond the superstar Christie face in the final xx years. Needless to say, I grabbed almost every single other Star Wars doll from this series, just $200 is generally my ceiling, and, 9 months ago, Chebacca was going for, at minimum, $450 on ebay.

And here'due south the lady herself:

Well, what is a collector to do? I got the brilliant idea, or so I thought, of recreating her. I noticed that some sellers were derobing dolls and selling their clothes separately. What, I idea, if I found and purchased a Chewbacca clothing gear up? And, lucky for me, a wear prepare, new out-of-box, was being sold on ebay not too long later on I had this idea, for the cheap, inexpensive price of... $130.

I put this item on my watch list. I watched it. And watched information technology. And the seller never offered a toll reduction. And finally, many days later, I got the nervus upward to purchase information technology. Because $130 could accept gotten me, you know, at least one or two very pretty dolls. And after taxes and such... it was more than like $150.

[Total so far: $150]

BUT I GOT HER Clothes! I didn't need to see if I could create a replica of these, I got them, they were in excellent quality as described, and the seller even sent me the "fur belt" that was wrapped effectually the box, though I have no idea what they thought I'd do it. Use information technology equally a belt? (I don't.)

Okay, now for the harder step: find the doll.

I couldn't. I looked and looked. But she never seemed to be offered separately from the box. I supposed I could have created a notification and watched of her, but I wanted to do this now. Besides, I liked the challenge. What doll would expect similar her? So I looked up the face mold. It was my first introduction to "confront mold", and it made me realize that the so-sugariness "sweetness tea" barbie, the starting time barbie I roughshod in honey with as a collector, was a "Karl confront" barbie, which prompted me to await for Karl confront barbies.. merely that's a different story. Anyhow, I institute that she was a "Lea" or "Kayla", then I looked for those, and found 1 that I thought may be somewhat the same: photograph shoot barbie, with a Kayla face. She wasn't every bit cute as the Chewbacca Lea, but I couldn't find anything really close, and she was relatively cheap: I institute a new one on Ebay which, later on shipping etc. came up to $forty.

[Updated total: $190]

She arrived, and I was worried that the clothes won't fit her. But they did! Except i thing... those fur leggings above the boots. Those didn't quite fit over her calves. And this made me realize something... I besides needed to take the doll'southward Trunk into consideration. So I looked it up and information technology said it was Model Muse.

Well, as information technology happened, I DID have a model muse barbie with a Lea face! This lovely lady, of whom I kind of call back as a "sis" to the sweet tea barbie: the political party perfect barbie. Her face wasn't much similar the Chewbacca Lea, and she had the wrong colors, only she's beautiful and the clothes would fit.

And so I switched them upward-- and the dress fit perfectly. I displayed her for a while next to my other Star Wars barbies, and she looked gorgeous.  And the really funny affair? As a party perfect, this barbie looks mild and sweet-natured, fifty-fifty dreamy. Dressed upwards equally Chewbacca? I could swear that she started to have a kind of sassy expression, aforementioned equally the Chewbacca doll. The clothes brand the doll indeed. I'thou sorry I never snapped a photo to show you guys.

Wait, you say, this story continues?? Yeah. Considering something nagged at me... this STILL wasn't quite correct. I wanted my party perfect barbie to be simply that! I didn't desire her to be the Chewbacca barbie! And then, while browsing one day for model muse body dolls, I found this lady: the Herve Leger barbie.

...Yeah, her face actually wasn't a great fit... but she seemed to have the right attitude, and exactly the body type. So I purchased her (nude, new out of box) for $70.

[Updated total: $260]

And here she is.

She'southward non the perfect Chewbacca doll replica. She isn't even a very skillful replica. In fact, I think that the party perfect one looked better. But she doesn't seem to mind. She's got a tough await on her face that says, Whatever, I'll model this for you.

Meanwhile, the Chewbacca doll? Withal $450 minimum on Ebay. And one day...I but KNOW information technology... I'll find her sold equally a nude on ebay or elsewhere. And she'll toll a minimum of $150...

And I'll look at her... and look at her... and I'll say to myself, SOMEONE will grab her soon! Here's your chance. And I'll expect at
[Updated full: $260]
And realize that it's going to be
[Updated total: $400+]

-- Which is pretty close to the $450 that I would have spent on this doll in the first place

And so I'll buy her.

Coming up next: (maybe tomorrow): How I tried to recreate the Dulcissima silkstone ($350 mimimum on ebay), and kind of failed.
